LYMAN, SC – Thursday, August 14, 2025 – David Petty, current member of the Lyman Town Council and lifelong resident, has officially announced his candidacy for Mayor of Lyman. Building on his record of service and his vision for smart, balanced growth, Petty is stepping forward to lead Lyman into its next chapter.
“Serving on Town Council has been an honor, and I have seen firsthand the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Lyman,” Petty said. “As Mayor, I will work to ensure that our growth is managed strategically, our downtown is revitalized, and our residents’ voices are heard and respected. Lyman is at a pivotal moment, and I believe we must plan wisely today to create the kind of community we want for tomorrow.”
Over the past two years, Petty has been a strong advocate for transparency, business development, and community-driven decision making. His professional background includes more than a decade in small business management and consulting, including close ties with some of Spartanburg’s leading nonprofits that are spearheading small business growth in the County. This experience has shaped his perspective on economic growth, small business needs, and the value of local entrepreneurship.
Petty’s campaign for Mayor focuses on three central priorities:
-
Smart Growth & Infrastructure: Ensuring Lyman’s infrastructure—roads, utilities, and public services—keeps pace with its rapid growth.
-
Downtown Revitalization: Launching initiatives such as a Structural Improvement Grant program and stronger design standards to breathe new life into downtown Lyman while preserving its historic character.
-
Open Communication & Transparency: Creating clear channels for residents to engage with their government, including a community liaison position at Town Hall and expanded opportunities for public input.
Petty’s campaign theme, ‘Smart Growth, Strong Future,’ underscores his vision of balanced growth that preserves Lyman’s identity while building a thriving future.
